Our Mission:
We conserve at-risk ecosystems through village-led partnerships
We create shared solutions that catalyze holistic conservation while improving human well-being.
We create shared solutions that catalyze holistic conservation while improving human well-being.
The Challenge
Socio-economic inequalities in rural communities drives cultural and environmental degradation. Lack of access to basic services in times of need causes communities to turn the unsustainable harvest and management of natural resources.
Our model provides the mechanism to improve human well-being while catalyzing conservation.
We provide community-based services that reduce socio-economic inequalities through the conservation of nature. We believe it starts with the community, and integrated conservation that both benefits humans and the environment is essential for the future of our planet.
Our model is called the Conservation Cooperative Approach. These are bi-lateral partnerships between Planet Indonesia and villages living in tandem with biologically diverse ecosystems. Through these partnerships communities receive much needed services in three sectors: business, education, and health, while creating new conservation management plans. Below is a list of the various services and aspects of this approach:
We provide business services through our flagship 4-step approach to kick-start and enhance Small Micro-Enterprises.
We provide four levels of tutoring to reduce inequalities in rural communities through improving access to education.
We work with communities to manage mangrove forests and restore coastal fisheries.
We improve community health through providing basic health provisions and counseling.
We provide asset-based inputs, training, and guidance to improve sustainable agriculture practices and restore degraded lands.
We create local Wildlife Protection Units (WPUs) to engage communities in wildlife management and research
We are dedicated to rigorously testing our model in both marine and terrestrial ecosystems. We use innovative, modern, and rigorous monitoring and evaluation techniques to gain evidence for our impact.
More than 3ooo households are served through our Conservation Compact approach, and this number is growing annually!
More than 30,000 seedlings have been planted on degraded lands. We work with communities to both protect AND restore ecosystems. Our plantings focus on native species that have value for both humans and wildlife.
Over 40,000 hectares of some of the world's most biodiverse rainforest and mangroves with new local sustainable management practices. Our conservation compact approach provides tangible measurable benefits for communities while catalyzing conservation.
