Managing Natural Resources and Safeguarding Biodiversity.

LAND AND FOREST MANAGEMENT: CLIMATE CHANGE, FOOD SECURITY, and BIODIVERSITY

We work with communities to provide asset-based inputs, training, and facilitation to restore degraded lands, transition to organic agriculture, and sustainably manage forest resources for mutual benefit. Planet Indonesia's model helps reduce deforestation and land-based emissions from unsustainable forestry and agriculture practices.

COASTAL AND MARINE MANAGEMENT: CLIMATE CHANGE, FOOD SECURITY, and BIODIVERSITY

We work with communities to create new fisheries management systems through temporary mangrove reserves and Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs). We help restore coastal fisheries that are the lifeline of communities. Our model helps reduce deforestation in mangrove forests, and helps strengthen local food security.

Wildlife protection unit (WPU): COMMUNITY-bASED MANAGEMENT

We work with local communities to create Wildlife and Forest Protection Units (WPUs). These units utilize the Spatial  Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) to improve law enforcement, and ultimately, give ownership and rights back to local communities. We believe we must engage local communities in all aspects of resource management, including law enforcement and management.

WILDLIFE MONITORING UNIT (WMU): EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH

Our Wildlife Monitoring Unit works to track populations of globally threatened species such as the Bornean Orangutan, Helmeted Hornbill, Straw-headed Bulbul, among others. We use cutting edge research to investigate the ecology and biology of some of the world's rarest species.

WILDLIFE RESCUE AND REHAB UNIT (WRRU): FROM ILLEGAL TRADE TO FOREST HOME

Our Wildlife Rescue and Rehab Unit works to get globally threatened wildlife out of the illegally wildlife trade and back into the forest. Stay tuned for more information as this Unit is launched in the end of 2017.

WILDLIFE TRADE UNIT (WTU): tackling ILLEGAL SUPPLY CHAINS

Wildlife trade is a billion dollar industry that threatens global biodiversity, national security, and community rights over natural resources. We work with governments to strengthen regulatory frameworks, provide intel, and work with agencies to cripple and break down illegal supply chains of wildlife and natural resources.

Our advocacy and frameworks team works with the Court Systems and Policy Makers to strengthen law enforcement at the highest levels of government in order to better manage natural resources.

ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP: CULTIVATING THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW

Our environmental leadership program works with high school and university students. We provide intensive training and seed funding to support local student projects. We believe it is essential to work with the younger generation to empower the future leaders of tomorrow.
